Greatness is a variable that grows with persistent pursuit of the greater good of others instead of yourself, yet it begins first in obscurity – void of the sea of stares and cheers. Then all the years of sweat and labour culminate in that destiny defining moment in full glare of all the lights, cameras and the thundering applause reverberating in the hall of fame.

This is the summary of the inspiring story of the Artistic Director and CEO of Liezer-Legacy Productions, Louis Lamis, the winner of the Man of The Year – Entertainment category at the 4th EMY Africa Awards 2019 on June 22 at Kempinski Hotel in Accra.

Since its debut in 2016, the Exclusive Men of the Year Africa Awards has celebrated distinguished African men annually on or around Father’s Day, highlighting the revelation of dignified men who have journeyed arduously from obscurity into the field of rising influence and positive impact in several categories of national development and recognition.

Reputable awards in various categories were given to great men like National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, Patrick Awuah, the Founder and President of Ashesi University College and shipping magnate Mr. Daniel McKorley for their positive influence in society.

The EMY Africa Awards kicked off in 2016 with a win by prolific Ghanaian rapper Michael Owusu Addo, known by the stage name Sarkodie as Man of the Year – Entertainment category. He was succeeded by inspirational Gospel Artiste Joe Mettle in the year 2017, and then by Livingstone Etse Satekla aka Stonebwoy in the year 2018.

The nominees for this year’s Man of the Year – Entertainment competing strongly with Louis Lamis for the award were talented Ghanaian singers King Promise and the “Rockstar” Kuami Eugene, movie director Peter Sedufia and renowned actor Mawuli Gavor. Ghana decided, and the results at the end of the voting was praiseworthy.

This year’s celebration did not exempt Louis Lamis from making an entry into the chapter of greatness with this significant win.

Louis Lamis, popularly known as Judge Louis for his dignified role as court judge in the nationwide acclaimed court comedy TV drama series Kejetia Vs Makola and its movie “The Trial of Shatta Wale”, gained prominence after serving Kumasi City with top-notch radio drama shows like the PM Show, stage plays like Grumpy Graham and its sequel, its spin-off Agbenortor and Sons, Prince of Egypt, the Love Laugh series and the satirical stage play “Only In Africa” whose sequel was staged in December last year. For the past 5 years he has successfully trained and raised young actors to unearth talent to partner with him in his reputable production determined to spread its impact from Kumasi City beyond the borders of Ghana through laughter, patriotism and underlying moral values.

The criteria for the Man of the Year – Entertainment EMY Africa Award was “prolific and consistent personality in the entertainment industry in the year under review, Ghana-centric with reach beyond the borders of Ghana.” It is beyond doubt that Louis Lamis has proved worthy of this accolade because of his remarkable dynamism that has earned him a place among great names in the industry, of personalities who have faith in Ghana and Africa to make the continent a great beacon to the rest of the world through Ghanaian entertainment.

After taking the Man of the Year – Entertainment Award, Louis Lamis seized the moment to stir a call to action as he shared the following heartfelt words with the audience present:

“I believe that our continent needs us more than ever, and I’m very honoured for an opportunity like this. And I charge us all that Mother Africa needs us, and we should give every skill, every ability, every gift and every love we have to make her proud.”

His upcoming High School TV drama series “GO” hits the screens later this year.

Kudos to Louis Lamis and Liezer-Legacy Productions for the great impact rendered in the lives of Kumasi City dwellers and Ghana with great content.

No border will be able to contain his greatness as long as his steady surge in glory forever inspires the youth to work hard, pursue the good of the nation and follow their passion to make the entertainment industry Ghana’s greatest resource.

This is believed to be a treasured moment for the humble and motivated actor, director and producer, and Ghana’s future is promising because of men like him.
